Advanced/special Training sessions in 2025

Here’s all the special race training sessions we’re planning on doing in 2025 ahead of their respective races!

Madison

Madison is one of the most exciting and technically demanding races in track cycling.  We'll take you through the basics so that you're ready to join more advanced Madison sessions in the coming weeks and potentially join some of the Madison racing this year.

These sessions are suitable for riders with no previous madison experience, but due to the challenging nature of Madison we wouldn't recommend this for people new to track racing - aim to have completed at least one full race season before giving it a go. Race Accreditation is required.

We’ve got you covered with our intro to Madison training blocks. Make sure you attend all 3 to get race ready.

Experienced Madison racers can choose to attend any of these training sessions but we recommend attending at least the second two in the block to brush up on your skills before racing.

Block 1: 9, 16 & 23 June

Block 2: 11,18, 25 August

These are in advance of planned Madison races at Track League at the end of June/beginning of July, and in early September, as well as before Brixton Super Madison on 20 July.

Pursuiting Workshops

Pursuiting Workshops

A special session focusing on Team Pursuits, but will also be useful for anyone wanting to get in some focused Individual Pursuit practice. You can ride these sessions with a Training Accreditation, but you’ll need Race Accreditation to enter the various leagues.

If you have a specific team in mind for Team Champs / Speed league, each rider will need to sign up individually.

This session will be one of the only opportunities to train with pursuit bars (which are not allowed in regular sessions), however it's still possible to join in if you don't have these. If you're in a club it's worth asking around if you can borrow some for pursuit training and racing!

25th April 7.30-9pm

31 May 5.30-7pm

Races where you can race Team Pursuits include: Speed League (monthly from May - September) and certain Track League events (currently scheduled for the end of April as well as mid June, July and September.).

derny

This session will have multiple riders behind each derny in different speed groups for timed blocks of training with riders alternating position behind the Derny. You should be able to hold 45kph minimum in a slipstream to take part in these sessions - bigger gears are recommended but not mandatory. Occasionally there may be some opportunity to gain 1-1 experience behind the Derny.

For anyone who has not done derny training before, please make sure you attend the Intro to Derny session, where you will be taught how to train and race behind a derny: including Derny Changes, as well as what to expect from Derny racing including - how to start, any rules you need to know, and have any of your questions about Derny racing answered.

If you haven’t trained behind the Derny before, we strongly recommend that you come to the first Intro to Derny session on 10th May.

Other sessions scheduled so far are: 18th May and 25th May

These are ahead of Brixton Open Dernyfest on 1st June - priority at training sessions will be given to people planning on competing in that race.

Sessions in advance of Brixton Womens Dernyfest and FHHV Vets Dernyfest will be announced later.
