Get ready for ‘cross

As the evenings draw in and the MAAP Summer ‘Cross series becomes but a distant memory, the CX season proper is nearly upon us and it’s going to be an exceptional season with HHV centre stage of the London CX scene.

Cyclocross training sessions

We’ve revamped our training program and have training sessions for everyone regardless of ability, skill and fitness.

If you are new to cyclocross or intrigued to try, the Tuesday evenings sessions are for you. We have a youth session (8-14 yrs) from 6:00 till 7:30 followed by an open adults session from 7:30 till 9pm. These are welcoming, easy-going lessons introducing the core cyclocross (and gravel) skills with plenty of opportunity for you to improve and gain confidence riding off road and give you everything you need to enter a cyclocross race.

On Wednesday evenings we’ll be hosting a Womens CX session, aimed at those riders who want to try Cyclocross or just improve their skill-set and confidence.

Racers will be interested in the Thursday evening programme: from 6 till 7:30 we’ll be running a British Cycling Development Centre for Youth (A+B) and Junior Riders, followed by an adult version from 7:30 ‘til 9pm. Both these sessions are for those racing, looking to hone existing skills and improve their fitness and endurance.

Every Friday morning there will be the opportunity to ride the trails as hard as you like on our Endurance Training. From 8:30-10am you’ll be able to enjoy a smash-around on the trails: improving your stamina and confidence off road and providing a good opportunity for focused time spent building that fitness base away from roads in the winter.

Don’t worry if you don’t have the right bike! With the help of the Rapha Foundation and the London CX League we have invested in a fleet of brand new cyclocross bikes you can hire for our training sessions and as your enthusiasm grows, to race in any of the local London races.

HHV Women's Intro to Cyclocross

HHV Women's Intro to Cyclocross Supported by Brixton CC (14yrs+) 6th, 13th and 20th of September at 7.00 - 8.30pm

Thanks to Brixton CC - we’re hosting Women's Intro to Cyclocross for women and non-binary riders who are new to CX, offering them on a pay what you can basis.

This series of sessions is held ahead of the races at Crystal Palace Park and HHV.

In these sessions you will tackle obstacles like hurdles, tight trails, dismounting and carrying or running with your bike, and build confidence in your bike handling. The sessions will be a great opportunity to learn new skills in an open and encouraging environment.

From October, these sessions will be open to women riders of all abilities who are keen to explore cyclocross riding or looking to improve their skills. No previous off road experience required.

Cyclocross or gravel bikes are preferred but you are very welcome to use a MTB too. If you don't have an appropriate bike you can hire an HHV one for £4 extra, this must be booked in advance via the entry form.

Cyclocross Racing Opportunities

We’re looking forward to the early season London races, 24th September at Herne Hill, followed by Crystal Palace on the 7th October and Canada Heights on the 29th October. Remember there’s the iconic and unmissable Muddy Hell on the 4th November at the Velodrome. Later in the season we get more serious with the London League Regional champs and of course there’s the fun New Year's Day Madison to ring in the new year - but more about these later.
